Barrett, Tim

Tim Barrett graduated from Surrey University where he studied German and Music and during his three years there was able to spend a term at the Vienna Music College working with Joseph Veleba. Part of his course included conducting which he much enjoys. The horn, however, is his first love and his teacher for about six years was Julian Baker, a professor at the Royal College of Music and member of the Covent Garden Orchestra. Tim also attended masterclasses given in Germany by Hermann Baumann. Such was Tim’s success at Surrey that he was invited to play Horn Concertos with both the University of Surrey Orchestra and the Youth Orchestra of his native Somerset. He is in demand as a horn player in several orchestras and smaller ensembles; he also founded the Surrey Chamber Ensemble.

After six years brass teaching in Surrey, Tim spent time working for Boosey & Hawkes and Korg. He is currently a Sales Manager with Buffet-Crampon. As conductor of the Scottish Vienna Horns he has the luxury of a group on which to try out new arrangements!
